How We Do It
Semi Integrated Photovoltaics
We often recommend semi-integrated mounting systems. This type of PV system uses bolt-on modules the same as in retro-fitting, but these are mounted much closer to the existing roof-line to give a neater and more integrated appearance.
This is acheived by stripping the roof in the area where the modules are to be mounted, and replacing the tile or slate with specially designed recycled plastic undertrays. These act as the weatherproofing for this part of the roof, and also as a base for the anchors which secure the PV system. This type of mounting system is particularly recommended for slate or flat tiled roofs, where it is sometimes difficult to achieve good weatherproofing around the roof-hooks used in standard retro-fit systems.
Semi-integrated systems are less expensive than fully integrated systems (as they benefit from the lower costs associated with using standard PV modules), but more expensive (by around £500 / kWp) than the same sized system retro-fitted. There is no need to completely re-roof as you do with a fully integrated system.
